What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy helps people do everyday tasks that are important to them. These tasks can be anything from getting dressed, eating, or going to school or work. The goal is to help people be as independent as possible.
How Does It Work?
Occupational therapists work with individuals to find out what tasks they find difficult. Then, they create a plan to help improve these skills. The therapy might include:
- Exercises and Activities: To improve fine motor skills, such as using hands and fingers more effectively.
- Adaptations and Tools: Recommending special tools or changes to the environment to make tasks easier. For example, using a special spoon for eating or a chair that provides better support.
- Skill Training: Teaching techniques to improve memory, problem-solving, or other cognitive skills needed for daily tasks.
- Education and Support: Helping families and caregivers learn how to support the person in their daily activities.
